The time
to set our sights for the 2003 fishing season aboard the Gallant
Lady is here. The best way to describe the 2002 season was
the season of wind and the lack of wind. I returned more deposits
in 2002 because of poor weather than any year to date.
Spring
gave us some good drum fishing when we could get the trips
in. Drum fish to 75 pounds were not unusual at night in the
Delaware Bay.
During
the summer a lack of wind gave us good fishing on the inshore
bottom trips. Flounder fishing was good, but size restrictions
did cause the keepers to be a little harder to come by for some
anglers, but most trips did produce a good number of flounders.
The wind
did not affect our offshore wreck trips. These trips and the
fishing were fantastic with most charters limiting out with
big sea bass. The inshore wreck trips also were good, through
June, and then most of these wrecks became over fished.
Late summer
is when the weather became a real problem. Tuna fishing was
good early and catches were good, but there was a week or so
during this time when the water temperature did get to warm
and caused a drop in our catches.
Later in
the summer when tuna fishing should have been at it's best the
weather caused many cancellations. The wind did not stop here
but continued right into the striped bass season and caused
cancellations and dirty water which did keep our catches lower
than I had hoped for.
The 2003
season is here and it's time to book your trip. Remember dates
go quickly so don't hesitate, especially for a weekend. The
Gallant Lady should be ready to start the season again with
spring stripers and go through the season the same as other
years. I look forward to fishing with you and your group, providing
you with a good trip and have you return to the Gallant Lady
for your future outings. You can contact me via email
