We had a great start in the spring with plenty of stripers and
drum fish. Stripers showed up at the end of March and we caught
them throughout April and into mid May. In May the drum fish
started to bite and we caught them until the 2nd week in June.
The best of the drum trips were in May prior to Memorial Day.
The fish were big, with most in the 60 - 80 pound range.
Our wreck
trips were inconsistent. We experienced good catches one day
and figuring on more of the same the next day, we found out
why it's called fishing and not catching.
Overall, these trips did catch fish, although not up to the
standards Captain Doug and I had hoped for. We are counting
on some bigger sea bass and blackfish for 2008.
Flounder
trips were good with high fish counts on most trips. The keeper
ratio was not wht anyone liked, but we did catch plenty of
flounder, whether we fished in the bay or the ocean.
The
groups fishing for tuna caught blue fins and /or wahoo on trips
when the weather was good. Most of the fish were caught while
trolling, but some were caught on the chunk when we found the
fish around scallop boats.
In
the fall, striper fishing was very good. On days when we had
good weather and clean water, we caught stripers in good size
and numbers. This fishing went on until we quit on December
22nd.
The
2008 season is quickly approaching and will start in early April
and continue until Secember 21st. Do not miss out on a good
day on the Gallant Lady with your friends. Contact me either
