Nearly all charter fishing boats have a policy
requesting that customers leave their
black soled shoes and boots at home when you are
planning to jump aboard their charter boat. Why?
Because most dark soled shoes leave marks that
are extremely hard to remove. That isn't the
only reason that you might want to look at your
choice of shoes while on a fishing boat.
Sperry (also the maker of Saucony athletic
shoes) has been the leader for years by offering
fishermen and boat lovers specially designed
shoes traditionally called deck shoes or boat
shoes. These shoes are specifically designed
with soles that will not mark a white boat deck.
More importantly, they are also designed with
rubber and sole patterns that don't slip on the
slick wet boat deck surfaces.

If you have been around charter fishing for a
while you are likely aware of the early boat shoe styles.
You probably already know that
they looked more like moccasin slippers than
actual shoes. They were reasonably comfortable
but they just weren’t designed for today’s
active anglers. Sperry (also the manufacturer of Saucony athletic shoes) decided that there was a
major need for a boat shoe that was able to
perform similarly to an athletic sneaker plus
also have the non-slip soles that boaters and anglers
demand. They also knew that this design would
have to be extra comfortable to handle a full
day of pounding from the shock of the constant
wave action that offshore angler's need to deal with. |

As styles improved, the word spread quickly among both captains and
mates about the newer Sperry boating shoes.
These shoes are so comfortable that most people usually end up wearing them all day every
day whether they are on the water or off. Anglers
and boaters soon found that these new Sperry boat
shoes were built much more durable and now have
incredible longevity. Because Sperry is the
leader in boat shoes, their styles are designed
with materials that will dry much faster than
standard athletic shoes and are made with
materials and glues designed to withstand being
constantly wet in daily use.

Although they are somewhat more expensive than a
similar athletic shoe, the Sperry shoes
balance the added investment with their
increased quality and durability. Even folks
that seldom fish or ever venture into a boat are
finding that the non-slip aspect can be a nice
advantage on slick wet floors in day to
day walking. If you are looking for a comfortable
quality daytime shoe, you owe it to yourself to
give these Sperry shoes a try. |
